Using traditional embroidery, beading and applique forms, I sew popular slogans onto sanitary napkins. Slogans include JUST SAY NO, SPEED KILLS, THIS SIDE UP, BLEED US DRY, PRAY OR DIE and PELVIC POWER.

Sanitary napkins are also available in colorful patterns and unusual shapes. One example is shaped like a reverse "exclamation point" fashioned to be worn inside a thong. The pads manufactured in the 1950-70s are much thicker than contemporary napkins and have long tabs designed to be secured with a special belt. With these napkins, I construct feminine "accessories", such as, chastity, garter, money and ammunition belts.

I work with sanitary napkins to encourage awareness of the taboos, commercial and cultural pressures employed as weapons against young menstruating women.
